Keyes Road - New Brighton - Wastewater

Printer-friendly version
We are replacing the gravity sewer main along Keyes Road, from house number 356, through to Bowhill Road. We will also be renewing the sewer main in Gresham Terrace and parts of Dennitt Street, Sinclair Street and Rawson Street during this project. This work is starting in late March / early April and will take approximately six months.

A further update to this work notice that provides an overview of New Brighton work is available here

The existing wastewater pipe suffered multiple breaks in the February, June and December earthquakes. The replacement PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) pipe is approximately 1.1 kilometres long and runs between the pump station opposite number 356 Keyes Road and the intersection of Bowhill Road and Keyes Road. The work will take approximately five months to complete, subject to suitable weather and ground conditions along the pipeline.

Methodology

To complete the gravity sewer renewal we need to dig trenches ranging from 1.5-5.5 metres deep. Dewatering, using spears and extraction pumping, will be required to drop the water table in the trench at all times. Excavation will proceed once the ground is dry, using trench shields. A new 225mm PVC pipe will be installed, then laterals will be renewed and attached at the private boundary. There may need to be some excavation done at your boundary, if this is the case we will be in contact with you. The work may result in increased noise, dust and vibration levels because of truck movements, the use of excavators, compactors and pumps.

Stay safe

Stay safe and alert, keep children and pets at a safe distance from the work site. Please do not allow children to play in any water around the site. If you wish to speak to someone on site please go to the person furthest away from any moving machinery.

Traffic Management

We need to close one lane of Keyes Road to complete our works. Keyes Road will be closed to south bound traffic, with a detour along Baker Street. There will be no access to Dennit Street, Gresham Terrace, Sinclair Street Rawson Street or Pratt Street from Keyes Road; these intersections will be closed. Access will be maintained via Baker Street or New Brighton Road. When works begins down Dennit Street, Gresham Terrace, Rawson Street and Sinclair Street there will be residents access only. Specific works notices will be distributed before these works begins.

You could also consider using Bower Avenue, Palmers Road (both west of Keyes Road) or take Marine Parade (east of Keyes Road) while we work on Keyes Road.
