Halswell Road, O’Halloran Drive, Mallett Place and Candys Road - Halswell - wastewater main replacement
We will be replacing the wastewater main commencing Monday 18 June until the end of August 2012.
- The wastewater main and public wastewater laterals in Halswell Road, O’Halloran Drive (between Halswell Road and Muir Avenue), Mallett Place and Candys Road were damaged during the earthquakes and need to be replaced (refer to Map One).
- Included in this package of work is the installation of a pressure sewer system on private property. City Care has been working with affected residents as these works will involve construction within private property only.
- All other properties will remain connected to the existing gravity wastewater system.
- As part of this project repairs will be carried out on Pump Station 61 in O’Halloran Drive.
- We will notify Mallett Place residents separately when the wastewater replacement work is due to commence.
IMPACT TO RESIDENTS:
O’Halloran Drive Residents
- O’Halloran Drive will be closed to vehicles between Halswell Road and Muir Avenue from 2 July 2012 until approximately mid August 2012. A detour will be put in place to allow traffic to enter O’Halloran Drive from Sabys Road. This detour will be clearly signposted (refer to Map Two).
- During periods when there is restricted vehicle access to properties, we will be asking residents to park their vehicles on the street outside the restricted area. You will be able to safely enter your property via the footpath.
- Should you have large or multiple items (such as groceries) which need carrying while our work crews are on site, please approach staff who will be happy to assist you to carry these items.
- Footpaths will remain open. Please ensure you follow all on-site signage.
- In the first section of work on O’Halloran Drive we will need to open trench with the use of trench shields. This is due to the depth of pipes and the high water table. We will be using trench shielding equipment, concrete saws, compacting machines and other pieces of equipment as part of this work.
- Please contact us on the number shown below if you have specific access requirements that we need to consider e.g. the arrival of Nurse Maude, Meals on Wheels.
Halswell Road and Candys Road Residents
- Access will be maintained to properties during most of the work, however from time to time, vehicle access to properties within the work area on Halswell Road and Candys Road could be restricted. You will be notified in advance of any changes to access.
- Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times while work is carried out on Halswell Road between Halswell School and Candys Road, however the lanes will be coned and the road shoulder closed to allow works to be undertaken. The shoulder closure will remove off street parking on both sides of Halswell Road from numbers 538 to 548 for approximately two weeks from 18 June 2012.
- A speed restriction of 30 km/h will be in place.
- All residents within the work area should take extra care when entering and exiting their property.
IMPACT TO HALSWELL SCHOOL
- From Monday 18 June 2012 there will be no parking available on either side of Halswell Road, from approximately O’Halloran Drive heading south, for parents dropping off children at the school.
- From 2 July 2012 there will be no parking in O’Halloran Drive between Halswell Road and Muir Avenue, as this section of road will be closed to vehicle traffic for approximately four weeks.
- For the safety of your children during construction, please ensure they remain clear of the worksite at all times.
- Please ensure your children are familiar with the change to the road conditions, including pedestrian movements during construction.
TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN ACCESS
- Speed restrictions of 30 km/h will be in place on O’Halloran Drive, Halswell Road and Candys Road.
- Resident access will be maintained to properties in Halswell Road and Candys Road, however from time to time, vehicle access to your property may not be possible for short periods of time. If this is the case, you will be notified in advance.
- Please note any on-street parking restrictions within the road closure on O’Halloran Drive. These will be clearly marked.
- Footpaths in all areas will remain open. Please follow on-site signage.
- Onsite staff will be able to advise and assist residents as required.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
Dewatering
- Due to the high water table in the area and the depth of the existing gravity sewer, we will need to dewater the trenches. This means that we will need to use pumps to remove water. These pumps will cause minimal noise.
Trenching
- We will be using construction machinery, pumps, concrete saws, compacting machines and other pieces of equipment as part of this work.
- Some levels of dust may also be experienced.
- There will be no expected interruptions to your existing water, wastewater, power, gas or telecommunication services while we undertake this work.
IMPACT TO BUS USERS:
- Bus stops on Halswell Road between Glovers Road and O’Halloran Drive may be relocated during the works. Please ensure you contact Metro Bus as notification will be given on existing bus stops to inform commuters of where the temporary bus stops will be located. Visit www.metroinfo.co.nz or phone 366 8855 for more information.
GENERAL TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
- For the safety of our workers and all road users, please follow the onsite traffic management including the 30km/h speed limit.
- Please ensure you follow the detour in place during these works. This will be clearly signposted. (Refer map).
