Antigua Street - Addington - Traffic Management *Update*
This notice updates the traffic management for Antigua Street.
Traffic management changes on Antigua Street

Antigua Street (between Brougham Street and Moorhouse Avenue)
- Due to the ground conditions and the requirement for dewatering equipment on site, and the depth of pipes, more space is now needed to undertake works on Antigua Street. As work progresses along Antigua Street a sectional one way lane system will be put in place from Monday 25 June 2012. A suggested detour will be in place for north bound traffic from Brougham Street diverting them down Montreal Street through to Moorhouse Avenue.
- A detour will be put in place directing northbound traffic down Montreal Street from Brougham Street to Moorhouse Avenue. There will be traffic management signage in place on Brougham Street and Moorhouse Avenue advising commuters of the change in conditions (please see above map).
Impact to residents/businesses
Antigua Street (between Brougham Street and Moorhouse Avenue)
- Stage one of the works will be in place between Moorhouse Avenue and Disraeli Street, and stage two will follow between Disraeli Street and Brougham Street. A detour through Montreal Street will be in place throughout both stages of work due to the sectional one way lane system and to reduce commuter traffic on Antigua Street.
- There will be no property access restrictions on Antigua Street, although at times you may require assistance by our staff on site.
- The footpath within the work site will remain open.
- On-street parking will be affected during the work period. Traffic management signage will indicate where parking will not be permitted.
- Access to properties for emergency vehicles, rubbish collection and deliveries will be maintained at all times.
- We apologise for the inconvenience that this change in traffic conditions may cause residents and businesses on Antigua Street. We thank you for your ongoing patience.
Burke Street (between Selwyn Street and Montreal Street) - update
- Burke Street works near the intersection of Antigua Street is still ongoing and is slightly behind schedule due to recent weather conditions and groundwater within the area.
Ruskin Street (Between Antigua Street and 72 Ruskin Street) – no change to previous information
- The first section of the wastewater main on Ruskin Street will need to be connected to the new main on Antigua Street.
- Due to the pipe being located down the centre of the road, as work progresses, Ruskin Street (between Antigua Street and 72 Ruskin Street) will be closed with resident access only.
- As we approach this intersection we will advise you of further details around road closures, traffic management and what this means for residents.
Fairfield Avenue (Between Antigua Street and 76 Fairfield Avenue) – no change to previous information
- The first section of the wastewater main on Fairfield Avenue will need to be connected to the new main on Antigua Street.
- Due to the pipe being located down the centre of the road, as work progresses, Fairfield Avenue (between Antigua Street and 76 Fairfield Avenue) may need to be closed with resident access only.
- As we approach this intersection we will advise you of further details around road closures, traffic management and what this means for residents.
Bus route (Number 20) along Antigua Street
- With the one way traffic system heading southbound from Moorhouse Avenue along Antigua Street, the number 20 bus will be detoured along Montreal Street for the northbound section of the route. The bus stops that were on Antigua Street will be relocated to Montreal Street for this section of the route. The southbound section of this route on Antigua Street between Moorhouse Avenue and Brougham Street will remain in place. What to expect during construction
- Open trenching will require excavation and compaction of road material. As such you should expect to experience some levels of noise and vibration from time to time.
- Some minor levels of dust may also be experienced during this operation.
- Due to the high water table in this area we will need to install a temporary de-watering pumping system while we undertake this work. Some noise may be experienced.
- We do not anticipate any interruption to your existing water supply, wastewater, gas, electricity or telecommunication services while we undertake this work.
General traffic management information
- For the safety of our workers and all road users, please follow the onsite traffic management including the 30km/h speed limit if posted.
General information about the works
- The work will take place typically between 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays between 7.00am and 12.00pm. On rare occasions we may have to work on a Sunday or a public holiday to complete this essential work.
- We ask you to observe the special cordons around construction areas for you and your family’s safety.
- Please contact us on the number shown below if you have specific access requirements that we need to consider e.g. the arrival of Nurse Maude, Meals on Wheels etc.
- All works are subject to favourable weather and on-site construction conditions.
