Assessing fresh water system damage

Printer-friendly version

Because the fresh water system is pressurised, we can usually notice damage at the ground surface with water flowing up from damaged pipes. Leak detection surveys are also carried out at night when not much water is being used. It is easier to pinpoint where water is flowing from when the pipes are less active.

To assess the condition of wells, we use CCTV to examine the well structure, and water sampling to determine how much sand is in the water. All but a handful of wells have been assessed as of December 2011.
